On the group ride with Spence and our daughter, Ashley, pillion today 😍
Starting Boronia Heights > Greenbank > Marburg > Atkinson’s Dam > Esk for brunch > Kilcoy > Woodford > Mt Mee > Dayboro pub for a coldie > home via The Gap
Long day again (group rides are usually the better part of a day) but makes all the difference when Spence/Ashley are there to chat to. Sometimes I just want a mate to ride with and seems like everyone has a bestie except me 😕 my bestie is at home sleeping as he is a shift worker that works weekends so generally I let him rest. And group rides are not necessarily his scene I get that too so I love it all the more when he puts sleep on the back burner for my sake.
What I love about group rides:
1. You get multiple opinions on bikes, performance, accessories, parts and servicing.
2. Hearing all the stupid ass stories 😂😂
3. Even though you spend parts of the day gas bagging it’s mostly riding, riding and for something different … more riding
4. The bikes. Up close and personal you can ask the owner questions to decide if this might be a bike for you in the future. If you’re lucky you can even swap bikes. That doesn’t apply to me I’m too short for most bikes #Feck or you can secretly lust from afar << me when I saw a Tuono 🥰
5. Being out and about. Sometimes you find new roads. Sometimes you visit old favourites. It’s never a bad time.
6. Sharing your love of riding with others who love riding. It can be hard talking to non-riders about your motorcycle life. They think you’re nuts, talking another language or just zone out.
7. Making the most of QLD weather. We are pretty fucking spoiled! I heard Kevin on MC Rider (YouTube) talk about ‘riding season’. Can’t relate. All year round is riding season in SEQ, blessed as shit for reals.
8. Avoid housework LOL cannot tell you how many times I *should* have been cleaning the house and just thought fuck it I’m out. This weekend I cleaned Saturday for guilt free riding Sunday 😚
9. Meeting new peeps. It can be very hard to make friends outside of work or a sports club in Brisbane. Not sure why and I’m not the first Kiwi to say this. People are nice enough so not sure why this is. Just is. I have felt quite welcome in bike groups though.
10. When a car is trying to pull out from a street / driveway and has to wait for 30+ bikes to go past 😂😂😂 I might be an arsehole by including this or laughing at it but meh don’t care, never pretended I was a good person.
Great ride today, no corner markers or Tail End Charlie (unless you count the dude on the KTM200 who by default is TEC) which is my preferred option. Only lost sight of the group once and took a punt which direction to go in hahahahaha. Having one of the slower bikes on group rides, it happens, you have a guess, might be right, might not, can always GPS your ass home if needed 🤷🏻♀️
The group I went out with is probably my favourite … couple of the usual suspects missing due to work or other commitments however still a good day with the crew. Had company most of the way home due to being North of home and most in the group being Southsiders.
Would ride again, 5 stars on Trip Advisor ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
