Will you ride?

The greatest week of all weeks will soon be upon us … Ride to Work Week, 7-11 October.

I ride every day I go to work (I work from home Monday and Tuesday) and can count the number of times in 2.5 years that I’ve bailed due to rain or needing to take something in the car.

But R2WW is that time of year when all motorcyclists should embrace what being one of the 2 wheeled crew truly means.

Beating traffic, adrenaline pumping, leaving yourself open to injury, mastering corners, doing dank whoolies and nodding to your fellow motorcyclists. Is this a dying action? Me think so.

I generally nod at all bikes and the returned nods are getting fewer and further between. On a weekend sprint up Nebo/Glorious/Mee there are not only multitudes of bikes but nods to go with them.

Perhaps mountain riding is more of a social activity given the numbers who head straight for the hills on any weekend or the good possibility you might see someone at the popular cafe so don’t be a knob end about it.

What is in a nod? Nothing more than acknowledging hey you and I share a love of riding. So why don’t more bikes nod? Do they think you’re taking it as a marriage proposal? Do they want to avoid being “gay”? Are they too cool for school?

First of all, no one is too cool for school. Y’all can crash and die same as me. Your bike might be more expensive than mine but so what? Like I give a shit.

Second of all, if it was The Beat and some dude was dressed up nodded at you then yeah it could be a gay thing. On a mountain, seeing each other for 3 seconds? Probz not champ. There is nothing wrong with being gay ffs 😑😑😑 there is something wrong with being so into yourself you think gay men are waiting for your particular bum hole so you better stand flat against the wall.

Finally, unless you are mid-corner, too many lanes over on the motorway or otherwise unable to *running from cops, in an accident, texting and riding* then no one expects you to nod. Keep focusing on not dying.

I will be riding every day unless it’s storming then piss off as QLD has a dry, clear winter and storm shitted Summers being a subtropical region. Even then the summer storms are all hiss and roar with potentially large hail for 10 mins (if that) and gone. From work I watch it roll on past well before I head home. Good time, good times.

While it’s always a personal choice for myself and others to nod or not nod, why wouldn’t you? Costs nothing, if you don’t get a nod back doesn’t matter, enjoy being the bigger/better person lol.

Near 100% of Harley’s, huge tourers like Goldwings and trail bikes do not nod back. I still nod. None of those bikes I’d ever want to own or ride so jokes on them.

Perhaps during R2WW all riders could make a bit more effort. As a motorcyclist, we get fuck all from anyone at any time. It’s our week. Recognise the comradeship and love of motorcycle riding. The following week we can all go back to whinging about revenue raising on our little FB pages πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Get out there, spread your love of riding with others and stay safe. Super ironic if there is yet ANOTHER bike fatality during R2WW. Becoming all too common and I’d rather see a post about someone’s lame ass chicken strips than RIP please donate to a GoFundMe πŸ˜•.
